How to connect to internet when i use cross over cable to connect 2 desktops?

My requirement is to connect 2 Desktops for file transfer purposes, but the requirement here is that only one computer should be connected to the internet. If I buy a crossover ethernet cable to connect the 2 PC's then the only ethernet port available in both my desktops are used up, under this circumstance how could I connect one of my PC to the internet without disconnecting the crossover cable which is in network with another PC?

you will need a 2nd ethernet card so that one computer will be able to access the net thru 1 port and file transfer threw the other.

Get a USB Ethernet Adapter like the Belkin F5D5050 Networking USB to Ethernet Adaptor ($21.27 at Amazon plus shipping) and plug its USB connector into the USB port on one of your PC. You plug the Ethernet cable from your router or cable modem into the Ethernet port on the adapter, and you have your Internet connection.
Reply:install a second network card into one of the machines to use as the internet port. You can give that an address that is attached to your modem/router.
Reply:you computer will support as many network cards as you like.. so you can put 10 of them in there... so either purchase another one or check with your isp sometimes they have modems that can connect through a usb without the use of a ethernet port.
