Trying to get my Wireless network working with Ubuntu?
Alright, I'm using Ubuntu and originally my wireless card wasn't getting recognized, so I fixed that. Now I am trying to connect to my home network and I can't find an option to search for available networks? Is this an option on Ubuntu or do I have to know everything about my wireless network?
My wifi was running for a whole week then suddenly today i started to hear 80s music! What is going on!?!?

I would guess that your wifi has nothing to do with the 80's music, unless you picked up a really unusual virus. Check your Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and look for running programs to find which one might be playing the music.

My lap top is not picking up signal from my Belkin wireless router?
My internet was working fine and the signal got interrupted. I restarted my modem and the internet on my desk top computer works fine. My lap top, however, cannot find any wireless signal while I sit right next to the router. All lights on the router and modem are working fine and supplying great connection to the desk top computer. I went to a friend's to see if maybe it was my lap top that wasn't finding the signal but I picked up her wireless signal and several others. So I came the the conclusion that it is my router. However, if the router isn't working how is it supplying connection to the desk top? HELP!!!!!!!

Can somebody Please help me with a project I have been working on for weeks!?
I have 5 PCs, all running Windows XP Professional in a Workgroup Environment. For the past couple of weeks I have been trying very hard to configure Roaming Profiles for all users, I must have tried about 30 times already. Somehow I get it to work a a short time, and then all of a sudden files are not saved to the Server, which in return will not load them for the user whenever he or she logins in to one of the other computers. I know for a fact there is a way to configure Roaming Profiles in a Windows XP Workgroup Environment, I just have not figured out the correct way, Can someone PLEASE help me. If you happen to know an eaiser way to set it up like using an actual Server with a domain running Windows Server 2003, you can let me know too. Thank-you SO much to anyone that can help me!!!

In a workgroup environment, there's no domain controller, but there is an election process that happens that makes one PC the segment master browser so you may need to tweak the settings to make the same machine (your server) come up as the segment master browser every time.
Again, it's been a long time since I dealt with Windows, so things may have changed since then.

I want to connect, via RDP, from my laptop at home, to a friend's laptop. I have xp pro, and my friend also has xp pro. RDP is configured on both machines.
The computer I'm going to use has a wireless router attached to hte cable modem. The computer I'll be connecting TO is solely connected/hard wired, to the cable modem.
If I have my friend do an ipconfig, is it going to give her the real address of her machine? Or is it going to give a 192.168.x.x address? I can't remember whether or not the cable modem will give out a real outside address when doing an ipconfig on a routerless network...?? If not, what sites can she visit to get her real ip address so that I can connect to her?

I would for-go this complexity and have her fire up MSN or Live messenger and have her navigate to Actions-%26gt;Request Remote Assistance. You should be able to control her computer that way.

i have a NETGeaR USB adapter for wireless
and it dont work
when i plug it in, it don teven have a light to show on the USB adapter to shoe me that it is even activated..
i have a DSL moden%26amp;router,
when i click on the Wireless icon at the bottom right hand corner
it shows nothing at the list..
im not using any other programs to run Wireless
i have wireless zero connection on automatic..
and yet USB wireless light, is not on.
no connection list..
i have other wireless connection around the house, and it all work
just this usb that is not working? why is that?

My modem is almost brand new, we just got it from TDS(DSL Provider) and have been using it since May. I am not sure how to do this, and I can't call customer support because of problems with my phone. Whenever i try to download (or upload) something, it works great except for the fact that the speed maxes out at 40kbps. I know this isnt my maximum bandwidth, because with our old modem, it went way higher than 200kbps. How do I change my modem to allow me to have higher speeds, both up and down?

1) It's not affecting profits.
2) They can't do anything.

Back when blizzard was still updating the games such as starcraft, warcraft 3, diablo, etc. There was a server copycat called PvPGN which was an open source project for those who didnt wish to play on the battle.net restricted servers. As the PvPGN could be used to have higher rankings, and private ablities for clans. About 2 years after the PvPGN was undergoing steady devlopment they faced a law suit for copy cating the Battle.net system aslong with hashing methods of there special game cdkeys.
Thus the project was shut down.
Its only a matter of time before blizzard stands up for WoW.
But the main thing is that most people rather play the real thing, more players.

This can also be used if you accounts for sale or hack sites. If its in the US you can bet the operator of it will get a nice letter from Blizzard.

I know there has probably been lots of questions about Net Send but this is unique for me.
Alright, here's the problem with me. I can send to other people and they can see it BUT when they send to me, I cannot see my message. It shows on their CMD that the message was sent successfully but I can't see it. Is it because of my firewall config?

i have dsl service and use a linksys for wireless connection for my hp labtop, recently i had problems with connection and called verizon, they helped me get my connection back resetting my modem and router, now after they were both reseted my connection keeps dropping and its very slow, can you guys help me out...

Also, make sure you have minimal walls between the two as well as large magnetic objects such as a fridge or freezer.

hi, i play warcraft 3 with my friends all the time thru ad-hoc wireless and it works very fine. but after connect to internet using wire then remove that wire, and try to get in to the game with my friends it. i cant. I see the game but it say invalid even when i see it hosted by my friend on the network. Thanks for help

Start %26gt; Run %26gt; Type 'cmd" (you'll see command prompt) %26gt; Type "ipconfig/all" to show you the IP information
%26gt; Type "ipconfig/release" (this will release your IP from the previous network settings)
%26gt; Plug in your wired connection
%26gt; Type "ipconfig/renew" (you will obtain a new IP address from the network you are trying to use) if this doesnt renew, next step is restarting with the wired ethernet connected to the NIC.

My wireless connection has been going on and of recently so I went to network connections and clicked repair nothing happned and now that icon is gone I have no idea where it went now I have no Internet? Anyone know why the actual icon dissapeared how do I get it back? Or do I need to create a new wireless connection?

Wireless internet dropout?
Well this is how it is. I have an internet wireless modem upstairs in my house and a laptop, wireless computer and another computer and also my computer are connected to it. Ever since around 2-3 days ago my internet on my computer in my room which has a wireless car has been dropping out every 4-5 minutes and not even saying its connected to the interned in the 1st place but it still works for that period. Every time it disconnects i have to go to wireless networks and click on connect. Then the same procedure happens again and again. This problem has never occurred in the 6 months my computer has been connected to the router and also has never had bad internet speed connections. I believe this may have begun since i started messing around with my internet network connections one day and done something wrong. If this is the case, is there anyway i can wipe the connection status from my computer as if it was never there in the first place then re-connect it to the network?

The best solution for that is, have a service tech come over and do a line test to see if the cable needs to be replaced. Perhaps your computer is losing its address assignment to the DNS server. I have had a similar problem where Skype still worked but my browser didn't function. Try setting up your network connection manually. You will need to know your current IP address, your subnet mask, and gateway address.
I found that setting my DNS to the same IP address as the gateway address (the address of the router), it solved the problem. If you encounter any problems just set your connection to obtain IP address automatically again.
The problem could also be caused by the fact that the DHCP auto-assigned IP ticket is expiring too soon.

Lingo vs. vonage?
I have been useing Lingo ISP phone service for about 5 years now and up until this last month there service has been good but latly there service is giving me so much trouble with calls to Japan.. The main reason I got Lingo was for the calling plan to Asia.
I just was at the Vonage site and see that they now have a calling plan to Asia...
Does any one here have that plan and if so.. How clear are the calls?

I do not think it is possible to recover this file. When deleting a file over the network, it is the same as deleting a local file by pressing SHIFT + DELETE (this bypasses the recycle bin).

my broadband connection breaks down after a short period of inactivity. It works fine while I'm using it but if I leave it for, say 5 minutes when I go back to it it times out. I tried turning off firewall but it makes no difference. Any suggestions appreciated.

Are you using a broadband modem which is connected directly to your computer, or is it an Ethernet broadband modem?
If USB modem: there is most likely an inactivity time-out that needs to be changed in the connection properties.
If Ethernet modem: there might be faulty hardware or there might be inactivity settings on the modem router itself. Or you could just have a bad line from the telco. Perhaps give them a call and ask them to check out your account, your connection, and if at all possible, let them check out your line.

Nothing can change it except for an updated router box. I had the same problem and it was because I had an outdated router. Contact your internet provider and they'll gladly help you out. They do have to come in and fix it, so an appointment is necessary.

Are you using a broadband modem which is connected directly to your computer, or is it an Ethernet broadband modem?
If USB modem: there is most likely an inactivity time-out that needs to be changed in the connection properties.
If Ethernet modem: there might be faulty hardware or there might be inactivity settings on the modem router itself. Or you could just have a bad line from the telco. Perhaps give them a call and ask them to check out your account, your connection, and if at all possible, let them check out your line.

Nothing can change it except for an updated router box. I had the same problem and it was because I had an outdated router. Contact your internet provider and they'll gladly help you out. They do have to come in and fix it, so an appointment is necessary.

I have a "D-Link (DES-10160) 10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch" and three Computers are getting internet connection from it. I want to add 1 more Computer and I don't know how to do it. (I didnt set up the other 3 computers) I know very little abt network. So please can anybody tell me the specification of the cable as well as other accessories which I have to use to allow another one or two computers to get connected to the inetrnet using this switch.
I use BSNL Broadband and i can get all the equipments required. Please tell me the specification of the cable and the process of how to do it.

Hi there, I hope I can be of assistance. I am unable to find much information on the internet about the switch you are using, but it more than likely uses CAT5 UTP cable. You will need to buy what is known as a 'flylead'. You can find this at most computer stores.
Then, you need to examine the network connection properties on one of the other computers. If the network connection is set to 'Obtain IP Address automatically', then all you need do is plug the cable from the back of the computer to the switch.
If it is set-up manually, I suggest you should look at those settings on another computer, and make them identical on the new computer EXCEPT FOR THE IP ADDRESS!! If the IP addresses of the other machines are, for example, 192.168.0.3 and 192.168.0.4 and 192.168.0.5, then you should make the address of the new computer 192.168.0.6

Why does my dsl modem keep disconecting?
The power, Ethernet, DSL light comes on and stays on but internet and activity flashes repeatedly and sometimes activity doesnt even flash. How do i fix it?

Trying moving your DSL modem closer to the point-of-entry that the telephone wires comes in and connect the modem there and then put a splitter filter (ones for the modem) to isolate it from the rest of the house telephone wiring. If your modem is far away from your computer then use Wi-Fi access point. Many DSL modems these days have integrated the Wi-Fi into the modem together with router. Also try to keep other wires that come out of the DSL modem separated, i.e. don't let them cross, this will reduce the chance of interference between the telephone lines and RJ45 (Ethernet) and the AC adapter wires. Last resort is to buy another DSL router with Wi-Fi.

Why Can't My Xbox 360 Detect My Wireless Network?
Thanks for reading this. I will be as specific as possible within reason.
I recently bought the official wireless adaptor for my Xbox 360. When I first hooked it up everything was fine, it detected my home network ok. The problem I had then was that I had forgotten my WEP key. Rather hastily I ended up resetting my router and starting the network again from scratch. Now I have a new WEP key which is great, however when I went to enter this on the Xbox I noticed it could no longer detect my network since resetting the router. There are 2 other computers connected to this wireless network and they are fine so I know the network is up and running. Could anyone think of any reason why the Xbox would not display my network? If so I would be very grateful for a solution.
Oh please note - The Windows "Connect Now" utility is not an option for me as unfortunately I'm told my router does not support it.

Lost internet in my apartment although it says that it is still connected?
I have been using internet from an unsecured network in my apartment building and all of a sudden the internet just stopped working. it says that I have an excellent connection, yet if I try to open a webpage or open up AIM it doesn't work. (AIM says that the server is incorrect, it still senses a connection) How can I get it to work again? Or worse.. do you think i have gotten a virus from the unsecured network?

You would still see the Wireless connection if the SSID is broadcasting, you would just not be able to connect to it. When to browse on all available wireless networks does this one now show up as secured ?
As to the virus, possible but unlikely, are you running an up to date anti virus software package ?

I am thinking of getting an Apple Time Capsule, i have broadband with Sky which has a wireless router already, do i simply plug this into the time capsule to use it? do ihave to disble the netgear router so i dont have 2 wireless networks? help please

Reply:I have a linksys router and the time capsule, both broadcasting a signal, this is because I have 5 computers in the house all of which can work on both routers (I'm guessing your router has the modem built in yeah??) the problem I had was I bought the time capsule for time machine and if I used the standard a/b/g connections, time machine would take forever!!! and as my MacBook Pro had the new n - draft connection capabilities (which is quicker and broadcasts over a larger radius) I set the time capsule for the n connection (if you're unsure what I mean about the a,b,g and n connections, just ask me or look it up on the net) again I encountered a problem, although my MacBook was compatible with this connection, none of the others were.. so this is what I've done, connected my router (linksys) to the modem, then connected the router to the time capsule, I then used the airport utility (which has to be used regardless of whether you're using a windows or mac based computer, the disk contains the program but its already installed on the mac as part of the OS - still have to use the disk though) the airport utility found my time capsule, I then continued through the steps, selecting "I have a wireless network and want to add Time Capsule or replace an existing device on my network" then next and continue to the end, I chose a closed network for my time capsule but as for the name, it usually takes the existing name of your router and adds something to the end, for an n class connection 5 GH z is added to the end...

Try the AA route finder, or multimap route finder. You'll need to put start and finish locations (eg. town or postcode) and it'll give you the road distance.

I'm using Prolink WGR1004 Wire Broadband Router.the problem is that i can access to the router thr 192.168.1.254 but can not get to internet.i had ping all the ip address and default gateway by Command Prompt, it works fine,i can access to internet by using modem,but not the router, btw i had set all the neccesary settings. do we need to config anything before using router? and also how we check whether the router is spoil? can anyone please help me,thanks!

First you have to verify whether the broadband router is connected to internet or not. You can check this on the Status page. If it is connected, check the computers IP settings mainly DNS. Verify the router's NAT settings.

Are you using DSL or Cable? If you are using DSL, most likely you need to enter your username and password into the configuration for PPoE.
Log on to the router by using your browser and typing the address: 192.168.1.254. The default user is "admin" and the default password is left blank. Once you are logged in and see the HOME screen, click on the Status button. What is the connection method? Does it say "Connection OK" next to "Broadband modem"? If not, click on the Connection Details button and look over the errors. Does it say anything like invalid user or password? If so, click on the Setup button to open the setup wizard again and verify you have selected the correct connection method and the configurations that go with that method. If you aren't sure what the method is, you should call your ISP.
It could be that your ISP has locked your internet connection to the Media Access (MAC) address of your computer.
While you are running the wizard and you have cable modem, in the cable modem config part of the wizard is CLONE MAC ADDRESS. Select that so that the router clones the MAC address from your computer fooling the ISP into thinking your router is your computer.

Reply:Press CTRL+ALT+DEL. Look at the task manager Processes running. If you seem to have a large amount, google search the names of some .exe's to see what they do. If they are un-needed, end that process (make sure you know what it does first!).
Click on Start -%26gt; Run. Type in "msconfig". When the System Configuration Utility pops up, click on the Startup tab. Untick any unnecessary programs that automatically start up with Windows.
Open the Control Panel and click on Add/Remove Programs. Uninstall any programs you don't use anymore (and also delete their folders in My Programs or wherever you installed it, if necessary).

We are on a network here at work, everyday I log on to my computer/ntework. All my files are saved on this network, so its a must to sign in to the network. Today I try to log in as usual and I get "username, domain, or password is incorrect." However I can log on to my CPU only and access the internet, but none of my files are saved here.
