Client / server was a term coined in the late 80s / early 90s to distinguish distributed computer network topologies from the legacy, monolithic computing model typified by the mainframe.
The term has more or less no relevance now as a distinguishing feature since even mainframes adopted the client / server model in the end.
I dare say that if you type 'client/server' into Wikipedia you will find an article or two that would be relevant to your question.
What is client and server enviroment?
Should have a follow up post to let us all know how you did on this paper your writing.
