How do you know if someone's using your wireless?

Like you haven't password protected it and other people can connect to it, is there a way for you to find out if anyone else is using it? And can you see what they're doing?

Check the connection log and see how many differant MAC addresses have connected. As for what they are doing. You need a fair bit of talent and the right software for that usually.
Reply:I go into my router settings. It lists the computer name and the MAC address of all machines connected to the network. Makes it easy to boot unauthorized people and ban their MAC address.
Reply:Are you running Norton 360? if so, go to my network, it will show you everything that uses your router.
Reply:Put a password on the router if you dont want people to connect to it. And to find out if they are hacking turn off your computers that are authorized to use the router. If the activity light continues to flash then somebody is using your wireless connection.
Reply:I have a linksys and there's really no way to know except for if the Wireless indicator light is flashing.

And nope, you can't see what their doing just like that but it would be cool if you could.

May I suggest putting a password on your router to keep others from accessing it? It's very easy to do - you just need to go to your router's settings and set one up.
Reply:Logon to your router and you can check to see who's currently connected.

Although for security reasons you should really encrypt your router so no one could get on in the first place without your access key.
Reply:Log onto your router settings and see how many MAC address's you see.

Every computer has its own address
Reply:you should have lights on your modem or router

these will flash if your internet is working downloading or uploading

if they are and you are not using it

somebody is

is an easy way to see
Reply:It is not always that easy and it depends on your level of computer knowledge and competency. With the right skills it is possible.

If you are asking about your own network, I would suggest that you encrypt your link (and change it regularly), hide the SSID, use an SSID which cannot be guessed and use MAC address filtering.

If you are using someone elses wireless network and are concerned that you may get caught... the simple solution is do not do it. It is illegal in most countries to steal someone elses connection.
