I'm actually wondering the same thing. I had an online chat w/a rep from Charter, my ISP, and she said w/only one internet service, you can only have 1 modem, which doesn't make much sense, and really annoys me. Has anyone else run into this problem? In my case I want to use this second modem to cover a weak spot in my house, but apparently that's criminal.
Reply:You don't want another modem, you need a router. The modem connects to the WAN port on the router, and you can then connect other devices to the ports on the router, or if you get a wireless router you can also connect via wireless.
Reply:Trying to use 2 modems on the same account will not work. But why don't you do this.

Most TVs will accept an external connection these days. I assume the TV you want to use will, because you are talking about a second Modem.

The problem is that TVs are not computers and do not understand Ethernet or USB, which are the only languages modems "talk".

So get a router and set up a network so that you can use more than one computer on the cable modem you already have. A wired system is best (for speed) but a wireless system will get the job done. Put a computer next to the TV, connect it to the network, and put a Video card into the computer that supports an S Video output so you can use the TV like a monitor. Now you can use your Internet video on a bigger screen. You'll need separate cables from your sound card to the TV for audio, but that's the easy part.
