ok ppl telling me i need to turn off firewall on modem to allow ps3 to connectm how does one do that?

Depends on the model of Firewall/Router you are using. Easiest solution is to statically set the IP Address on your PS3 and then put that IP Address in the Router as the DMZ address. If you give your make and model of firewall I can look on the manufacturer's site to find a guide for you. Or just check out the site yourself. Also try searching yahoo.com for "How to connect ps3 to the internet"
