I want to format my new p.c. hard drive using my laptop. Can you tell me the best, safest way to connect them ?
Connecting laptop to p.c.?
You would have to remove the hard drive and get an internal to external converter so you can connect it to your laptop. Theres no way to directly connect it since your desktop has no drivers to function.
Connecting laptop to p.c.?
If you are thinking you can just transfer your entire configuration (Windows setup, etc.) to a pc from a laptop, you can't. It's one license per computer. But transferring files and settings can be done with Laplink, which includes a crossover data transfer cable. Straight-through cables will not work -- you need a crossover cable. If you just want to format the pc's hard drive, a Windows Install CD (Retail, not OEM) can do the whole job in just under an hour, no connections required. Again, you would need to buy a new Windows license and activate the pc. Also, most programs either let you install on three computers, or just one. Check the license terms.
Laplink really shines when you want to transfer programs to a new pc, because you do not need to reinstall the programs one by one. The data transfer cable can handle programs as well as files.
Reply:i think you could do it using a straight through cable its just like a ethernet wire I havene done that stuff but we use to connect two system and control it from one system in our computer labs.
