Moving into a new apartment and I'm a little unsure on the process of setting up an internet connection.?

I'm moving into a new apartment in the next few weeks and I'm trying to figure the best deal when it comes to the cable/internet/phone. I have a laptop, so I didn't know if I could just use a wireless router and not pay for AOL, Comcast, etc...Or should I purchase a wireless card, to have constant internt access?

Well, first off, you're going to need a modem one way or another. UNLESS, your neighbors have one already and it's not protected. Your laptop should already have built in wireless if it's within only a few years old.

Well you will not get internet connection if you do not pay for it somehow, the question would be the cost of a wireless card INCLUDING the cost of telephone and cable. I suspect that getting all three from the same company would be the cheapest... but if you take you laptop with you and are on the move a lot would it really be worth it to pay extra for a wireless card thru verizon or at%26amp;t for constant access.

It is all in the money you want to spend according to your habits and needs.

I have dsl thru speakeasy.net, cell thru at%26amp;t, cable thru Dishnetwork and home phone thru telecom... I am paying WAY to much, so make better decisions than i did.... lol
Reply:I think you may be a little confused about the pieces of the puzzle. Owning a wireless router does not get you internet access. Here is an example of a common set up.

-Comcast Internet (Service month-to-month fee)

This service allows you to connect either one computer or a router to it to connect multiple computers.

-Cable Modem (Hardware)

Converts the signal from coax cable to Ethernet (computer network cable.)

-Wireless router (Hardware)

This take the connection provided from Comcast and broadcasts it wireless

-Wireless Card (Hardware)

This is installed a computer to receive the wireless internet.

I'm assuming by AOL you mean Dial-up internet. Having high speed internet (Cable internet) I could never go back to dial-up.

Try the comcast service for the promotional period (low introductory price for approximately 6 months) If you don't like it after that you can cancel the service without penalty.

I hope this helps you, good luck on your move! Hopefully it won't rain during the move like it does on me when I move.
