I am confused how can I use my new modem from verizon without home phone service?

I didn't know you have to have a phone service to hook up high speed internet I thought it would automatically work once installed but I get a message about having a home phone line. Is there anyway I can get my service or how can I get wireless internet service for my laptop and home PC

The modem you have works for DSL through a telephone company. Requiring you to have phone service. I prefer Cable Internet because

To get the ball rolling, return the DSL modem and purchase a cable modem. The cable modem can be hooked up to any wireless router allowing for both wired and wireless internet connections.

You can have Verizon internet without having a home phone number (obviously your home has to be wired for phone though). It's called dry-loop DSL. You need to call Verizon and you'll probably have to have someone come out and set-up the line (they have to shoot some tone through it or something). They should also be able to tell you what your dry-loop number is.
Reply:I don't understand Verizon selling you a modem and a High Speed Internet account without you having a phone line. They usually ask for your phone number when you sign up for the account. The person who sold you the account should be hung out on a phone pole for a week!! Take it back with your receipt and get your money back.


In order to get a high speed Internet connection, you must have either a phone line or a cable connection to the ISP. Once you have the connection, then you can get the correct modem to get your Internet service
