Can anyone tell me why?

my broadband connection breaks down after a short period of inactivity. It works fine while I'm using it but if I leave it for, say 5 minutes when I go back to it it times out. I tried turning off firewall but it makes no difference. Any suggestions appreciated.

Are you using a broadband modem which is connected directly to your computer, or is it an Ethernet broadband modem?





If USB modem: there is most likely an inactivity time-out that needs to be changed in the connection properties.





If Ethernet modem: there might be faulty hardware or there might be inactivity settings on the modem router itself. Or you could just have a bad line from the telco. Perhaps give them a call and ask them to check out your account, your connection, and if at all possible, let them check out your line.

Nothing can change it except for an updated router box. I had the same problem and it was because I had an outdated router. Contact your internet provider and they'll gladly help you out. They do have to come in and fix it, so an appointment is necessary.
Reply:it most probably seems to be problem because of the Idle Timeout settings in your connection and u can change this on your router or modem...so it will depend on which device u are using. You can try calling your ISP, they should help u out if u got the modem from them.

Reply:Hey look this occurs due to the unproper connectivity of net from the broadband.kindly get checked the instrument with the net provider and ask him to replace the peice.If that is not so your lancard drivers might not have properly installed.Install the drivers first and then go on for the change.
Reply:This is because of 'idle time' setting on your broadband modem.Pl call your service provider to fix it.This would be better than doing it on your own.
