Network design and management?

What exactly does a network designer and a network manager do?





Stupid question for you technical folk, I know, but I'm a virgin in this area! Somebody suggested to me that these are good jobs that I should look at trying to get into (eventually, after a lot of studying.)
Network design and management?
It really is different at each company. But the basic idea is you would evaluate current needs, future needs of the technology structure that is specific to that company. Generally speaking there is little 'hands-on' for the designer





Managing the network can mean a few different things, in a large company with its own IT staff it is the person that all the IT people report too, not usually the way you think. It is the person that is like a go-between for IT staff and non-it staff. Most of the time it is the person that keeps the non-IT staff away so the IT can do their job, not all managers are more informed than the IT staff actually doing the work.





Then you have a management server for your network... that is the person/company that is hired to come in and manage AND maintain the network you have designed. This is much funner, you get to design it and have hands on. BUT if you design a good and healthy network..... you are not needed much for management so you need many clients to eat everynight!

u should know the theory and how to built your network





first u should know how to use PC (windows based,linux,etc)


you should know how to set up network devices(hubs,switches,routers)





u should know what is OSI model


what is routing protocol


etc

look for fundamental series, for example


networking fundamental, tcp/ip fundamental





after 5 year (minimal) working as network engineer


and involved in building small to large network


u might suitable applying for network designer position


most of this network will be built using cisco devices


so u should have ccdp (Cisco Certified Design Professional) certification of even CCIE (CC Internetwork Expert) certification





search for CCIE,CISCO in google





that's if we're talking about IP network
