It depends on what you're expecting to run on the other five computers. Is the server going to be on 24/7, High end work, or just general internet surfing, videos, games, etc. Are you going to back up regularly, if so, how much information are you liable to back up each day, week, month etc.

Reply:5 is rather odd number to do this, the cheapest hub takes 4 straights + 1 cross; but put in a bit more you can have 4 straight + 1 auto which means five regular ports.





With regular patch cable, add Ethernet card if not already there, it would run into $70 US to get everything shipped on eBay.
Reply:With such a small network I wouldn't waste money in a server. A Workgroup setup will do just fine! To network everybody you just have to get the cat5e patch cords for every computer and a switch. We are talking of less than $100 to network everybody (depending on how expensive is the switch you want to get).
