Lost internet in my apartment although it says that it is still connected?

I have been using internet from an unsecured network in my apartment building and all of a sudden the internet just stopped working. it says that I have an excellent connection, yet if I try to open a webpage or open up AIM it doesn't work. (AIM says that the server is incorrect, it still senses a connection) How can I get it to work again? Or worse.. do you think i have gotten a virus from the unsecured network?

S...u r rite the thing is u r out of the Internet but u r inside the network..lot of difference between dis 2...check it out first
Reply:Well the router may be offline. U may need to restart it to start the connection %26amp; unsecured network means, that wireless network dont have a password %26amp; u wont get virus like that ...
Reply:I'm assuming that you not the owner of the unsecured network. Could it be that the owner of the network has enabled security ? You would still see the Wireless connection if the SSID is broadcasting, you would just not be able to connect to it. When to browse on all available wireless networks does this one now show up as secured ?





As to the virus, possible but unlikely, are you running an up to date anti virus software package ?

all the matter that the router doesn't connect to the Internet, despite the way of connection, if the router belong to you try to restart it or reconnect to Internet

Reply:Assuming you are connected to the network, but not the internet, then there isnt much you can do since the router doesnt belong to you. A strong network connection doesnt mean anything about getting onto the internet. One thing to check, when you go to network and sharing, and see the network, does it show that you are connected to the internet? or just the network?





But, like I said, you have no idea whats going on with the person running the router, they might have put in security, which blocks unknown computers from getting on the internet, they might have there modem shut off, they might have gotten rid of there internet connection all together. Youre best bet is going to be to get an internet connection of your own, so you can control it. However, if you know someone in your building that has an internet connection, you might offer to share it and split the cost, as a way to conserve money.
