What is the differene between LAN and VPN?

A Lan is the actual network. the cables. the computers etc.

a vpn is a virtual tunnel that runs over the lan. Ie from one pc to another. Its so you can have a secure network inside a network in a way.

Normally achived by using software on both computers.
What is the differene between LAN and VPN?
VPN - Virtual Private Network, a network that is constructed by using public wires to connect nodes.

LAN - Local Area Network, a computer network that spans a relatively small area using non-public wires or wireless signals.
What is the differene between LAN and VPN?
LAN---Local area network. Physically network devices and computers gather in a limited area by reliable media like ethernet cable, optical cable or dedicated line. The limitation (transfer rate and distance) depends on the network media. Logically, the network devices in the LAN have similar network environment like same subnet/netmask, same gateway. It is treated as secure network or private network, because it is closed and isolated relatedly.

VPN---Virtual Private Network. To achieve some functions which only work within LAN environment, a comparatively secure tunnel is built over public network (mostly it non-secure and slow) to make them logically in a same LAN(they get into same subnet). That connected by such tunnels and functioned like in LAN call VPN.

Reply:LAN: local network so computers servers your infrastructure

VPN: a way for you to get into your LAN/infrastructure/files/etc. over web or remotely
