My speed is very slow, about 700kbps! (When I run speed tests)?

Inside my router manager thing it says the downsteam is 3387, which is 3.3mb i think. But I've ran about 5 speed tests online and they al put my speed at 0.5mb on average. I rang my ISP who said I was getting nearly 4mb. Whats going on can someone please help. It seems that my line is getting upto 4mb but when I test the speed im actually getting its much lower. Ive changed my filter and put the line in the test socket to see if it rises, I dont know if that will help tho as I dont really know what the issue is. I dont have any virus's i know that. I want to watch on damand :( Please help, I need a internet expert here!! much appreciated

How are you measuring your speed? what is it that is telling you that you are getting a 700kbps connection speed?

If the router is reporting 4mb, and so is your ISP, i'd say it's a problem between your router and PC. Do you wireless and is it secured? It could be someone taking your connection. If it's not, it may be the firmwire on your router needs updating or the router itself is on the way out.

your download speed is totally different from your up load speed


downloading mine is 4 to 6 mb


upload is .5 to 1mb which is correct

Reply:First of all, If you are behind the WiFi router, try to plug computer directly via ETHERNET LAN and test speed ( Do not load your bandwitch while testing ), for speed testing I suggest: http://www.speedtest.net ; If it isn't working and you are getting same speed, try to run some spyware software scan ( for example: Lavasoft Ad-Aware ) There is a big possibility that you have some virusis which is loading your UP link, which makes your internet to tun slow ...





These are first steps you have to do .. If you stilll having same problems call to your provider and ask for supervisor ;)

but i think theres a big scam going on, i think 4MB and 4mb are quite diffrent for some reason M and m make a lot of diffrence in speed.





i'm supposed to have a 16MB line, but i know i only will get 4MB but usually get slightly less.





it all depends on which company you are with, some will limmit your speed, if you use it a lot, and your compnay is a light user company you will have a slow speed. and it fluctuates during peek and none peek hours.





try testing with www.speedtest.net





test at 3-5pm and then at 8pm and you will see a big diffrence, the fastest speed will be at 5am when there arnt many people online. i got 5MB!!





Sky, BT and virgin media are heavy user ISP's. companies like tiscali will limmit your speed, and are for low/light users.


i had huge issues with tiscali, and will never go with them even if it was free or someone paid me!
