Can I have wireless internet if my home computer doesn't have a wireless card?

I have Optimum Online, cable internet at home but my desktop doesn't have a wireless card. However, my laptop does have a wireless card. I also have a router that I usually use at school. Is there any way to use my cable internet and somehow hook up the router and get wireless for my laptop?

If your router is a wireless router, yes.

Yes, connect modem to router, there should be a port on back of router where you can connect your desktop, so its still hard wired, that is if you set up the router near your desktop. Router then sends wireless signal throughout your house, where your notebook can access it .
Reply:well with your first question...

Answer is yes.

How you ask? If you go to an electronic store like...lets say...Best buy, you can ask them were their USB adapters are. I don't know if links work here but here is a link. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...

Just a week ago I bought mine which is the Belkin - Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter. Only buy it if you can get a wireless signal at your house on your laptop already.

for your second question i don't really know...
Reply:hook up your cable modem to your wireless router and use your routers instructions to set it up for the internet, once this is all done correctly you can get it to broadcast your internet wirelessly to your laptop
Reply:when you use the wireless Internet your computer has to have wireless programed into it.most new laptops have this.and you cannot use your cable Internet connection on your computer to hook to wireless, but you could apply for "DSL the place where you get your Internet from and it will help speed up the proses at home and you can talk on your house phone at the same time when you are on the Internet.but, you may not be able to get DSL in the area you live in because the Internet company may not have a connection in that certain area.
Reply:Wireless routers are all wired and wireless. If your desktop is near your router, you can connect that with an ethernet cable. Your laptop can be on the wireless. Make sure you setup WPA encryption. Best Buy can set this up for you in the store for a reasonable price.
